Doom3 Alpha E3 Demo

With the online instructions, it was a breeze to have it up and running on my machine. Running slowly that is. I got an average 10 fps. Sometimes 0 fps when in combat and sometimes 30 fps when nothing was near. I'm still futzing with settings to make that better.

Many people have made entire pages on the net dedicated to tweaking Doom3 performance. One site says they know how to turn on multiplayer! More say you can add all monsters and guns, including the BFG.

My gameplay was so choppy but it was amazing none the less. The lighting is amazing and I was definitely freaking out old doom style. The AI seems extremely intelligent. It took me forever to beat the Imp (see pictures) because it's attack is relentless and you are blinded and automatically recoil from it's blows. Awesome. The detail is unbelievable. When I died, I just sat looking up at the veins or fabric that made up the legs of the thing that just killed me. Some graphics froze in midair, like gun bursts. Sound was choppy too.

(This last screen is me looking a mirror to check myself out. You can also go to a 3rd personview). This isn't even a demo remember so I hope no one will hold anything against id for it. It was amazing to just stare at everything no matter how choppy it is. So what if it has big graphic requirements. I say good. I wouldn't want to sacrifice any of the quality of this game so I can get a cheaper video card. I think it will only make people more excited about the release. In fact, I bet people are going to learn all they can about the engine in this alpha and will be more ready to mod when the game is released. I actually wonder if we won't see some mods and tweaks for this very alpha before long. Nonetheless, It was amazing to see the future engine of all FPS's first hand. I'm assuming everyone feels this way, but I am even more eager for its release now.
